MEET THE ARTIST

Originally from Connecticut, and currently living in the mountains of Salt Lake City, Utah, Jolysa Sedgwick has a passion for Socio-cultural Anthropology, travel, the outdoors, her family, and finding ways to give back to her community. She has always been drawn to glass and tile artistry, and when she travels, she seeks to find opportunities to see new forms of both. Much of her work is inspired by nature and the sense of whimsy inspired by color. Many of her pieces show ocean life, which is her way of exploring as she currently has a deep aversion to swimming in open water.

Jolysa received her Bachelors degree from Brigham Young University. She studied Anthropology and completed undergraduate research in the Nan Province of Thailand. After graduation, she became involved in the West Jordan community; helping to establish the Lion's Pantry at West Jordan Middle school, raising funds through community concerts to support food-insecure students.

As a special project, she is combining her love for Hmong traditions, glasswork, and community building through collaborating with traditional Hmong artisans to create stained glass pieces that reflect the beauty of traditional Hmong embroidery patterns (see images below for examples).

Jolysa received special recognition for her Sunflower piece. It was featured in the 2023 President's Art Show at Salt Lake Community College, SLC, UT.  Only 91 out of 395 applicants were accepted! Sunflower was also mentioned in the Artists of Utah article on exhibit.

LION'S PANTRY

2018 - Present

According to a well-known candy bar commercial, “You’re not yourself when you’re hungry.” It’s played for laughs.
But for many children going to school each day in Utah schools (and across the country), it’s no laughing matter. They’re not themselves, and learning can be very difficult when you’re more concerned with hunger than school work.

THE PERFORMERS I THE SEDGWICK SISTERS

2008 - Present

The Sedgwick Sisters are a group that started in 2008 consisting of a Mom and daughters who perform songs from 1920’s – 1970’s. The girls hail from Stratford, CT and have been singing since they could talk... but professionally sharing their voices since June of 2008.
Having studied music and theater in many different forums, the girls are well trained in what they love to do.

We have enjoyed over 1000 performances in central CT providing melodic entertainment that brings back memories especially for seniors.
The shows are lively & fun to watch, as well as hear, and we really enjoy interacting with the audience. We can’t promise who will be singing each time, but we do promise that all shows will be different and are guaranteed to bring a smile!
